A consultation has begun to review fire service facilities across Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Commenting on the review, Owen Smith said:
“I have given my support to the campaign to keep two fire engines here in Pontypridd, and I have met with the firefighters at Treforest station.
“I’m supporting the proposed position of a new station in Upper Boat with both a full time and a retained appliance. The station would be just off the A470 and would have better access in emergency situations than the current location in Treforest, which is on a side street on a busy artery road.
“People have approached me with concern and I agree that having just one appliance locally is insufficient and could be dangerous. I will be lending my support to our firefighters here in the Pontypridd constituency and will be submitting my views to the consultation shortly.”
