The design by class six pupil Katie Griffiths, of Maesybryn Primary School in Llantwit Fardre, has won Mick Antoniw and Owen Smith ‘s annual Christmas card competition – and her design will be sent across the area and beyond on cards sent by Pontypridd ‘s elected representatives.

Watched by her school friends, teachers and parents, Katie was presented with a signed copy of her winning design along with a gift voucher.

Her school also received a framed print of Katie’s winning design, which shows an angel standing above the word ‘peace’.

The design was chosen from hundreds of entries from a number of local schools.

Headteacher Simon Roberts said: ” We’re very proud that Katie’s design was chosen for this year’s Christmas card.

‘We’re very proud of Katie’

“What’s very special about it is that at the bottom of the card. In today’s world, peace is something we should all be striving for.”

Proud parents James and Lucie Griffiths added: ” We’re both very proud of Katie.

“She really enjoys art and loves to draw. She’s really excited that her design has been chosen for such a special card.”

The event was sponsored by Edwards Coaches, based in Llantwit Fardre, for a fourth consecutive year.

MP Owen Smith said: “Yet again we had a fantastic response from local schools and I would like to say thank you to all the children who entered the competition.

“Katie’s design looks fantastic and I’m sure Maesybryn school will be very proud of her.”

AM Mick Antoniw added: “I t was really difficult to select this year’s winner from so many great entries.

“Maesybryn is a fantastic school and I’m sure that Katie’s teachers and all her classmates will be very proud of her.”
