Pontypridd’s new dog-friendly café a hit with MP Owen Smith and pets Wilf & Maisie

Local Labour MP Owen Smith, his wife Liz and their pets Wilf and Maisie have paid a visit to Pontypridd’s new dog-friendly café based at the animal charity shop Hope Rescue at Taff Street, Pontypridd.

Hope Rescue was established in 2005 and helps rehome stray dogs after completing their statutory seven days in local authority pounds.

The charity secured funding from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to help with the refurbishment of the Taff Street charity shop.

Owen Smith MP said:

“Hope Rescue does fantastic work helping to rehome stray dogs from across Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil and Torfaen.

“The charity shop in the heart of Pontypridd not only helps to raise much needed funds to help give stray dogs a loving, second home, but also a hosts a dog-friendly café where dogs and their owners can enjoy a welcome break from shopping in a relaxing, friendly environment.

“This is the first café where dogs can take their owners and it’s sure to be a huge success!”

Hope Rescue’s retail manager Katy Scourfield added:

“As a dedicated animal charity, we wanted to be a place where dog lovers could shop and support our work as well as a meeting place to enjoy time with their beloved pets.

“We pride ourselves on making a difference in the community and we work with local suppliers to source a wide range of tasty treats for our café to suit dogs and their owners.

“We’re delighted that our MP Owen Smith has been able to stop by with Wilf & Maisie and see for himself the services on offer.”
