Owen Smith has urged people in the Pontypridd constituency to buy locally for Small Business Saturday- Britain’s first ever day dedicated to celebrating small firms.
Saturday 7th December will debut the campaign which was launched in America three years ago, and is aimed at supporting local businesses by encouraging people to buy from local shops and eat in local restaurants.
Small Business Saturday has received cross-party support here in the UK and its celebrity supporters include James Caan from Dragons’ Den, Karren Brady from The Apprentice and TV’s Retail Marketing Consultant Mary Portas, as well as organisations like the Federation of Small Businesses, the British Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Convenience Stores.
Ahead of the campaign day, Owen Smith met with Donna Edmunds to congratulate her on the success of her home accessories shop, Finishing Touches, which is located in Trallwn, Pontypridd.
Donna spoke to Owen Smith about her work locally and the challenges she faces in running a small business in this tough economic climate. Established nearly two years ago, Finishing Touches prides itself on the fact that nearly all of its accessories are hand made locally here in Pontypridd.
Commenting after the meeting Owen Smith said:
“I am proud to support small local businesses in Pontypridd and it was a pleasure to meet such a vibrant and enthusiastic business owner as Donna. We can all do more to support our local traders and this campaign is a great way to celebrate our essential small businesses.
“I would encourage people to shop locally to support Small Business Saturday. It’s a fantastic way for shoppers to show their appreciation of these valuable small businesses and their importance to our local communities. I really hope Small Business Saturday will be a big success across the Pontypridd constituency.”
Donna Edmunds of Finishing Touches added:
“I am really pleased that we have a national campaign day to support small businesses such as mine here in Pontypridd. By encouraging people to shop locally, we can hopefully shore up support for local businesses and boost our local economy on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.”
Finishing Touches was established in February 2012 and is situated on Central Square, Trallwn, Pontypridd.
Donna lives locally and the majority of the items sold in Finishing Touches are hand crafted and made here in Pontypridd. Finishing Touches has a Facebook Page with more information- search ‘Finishing Touches Pontypridd’
