Owen Smith, Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, and MP for Pontypridd, today presented the keys of a new Motability Scheme car to his constituent Janet Atkinson. The presentation took place at Griffin Mill, Tonteg Road, Pontypridd.
Janet, 45, has a hereditary condition that affects all her joints and tendons. She selected an automatic Nissan Juke that is easily accessible for her. Before leasing her Motability vehicle, she drove a manual car, but using the clutch became too painful, sending vibrations all the way up her spine.
Janet said: “I am very thankful to Motability as my car will enable me to get out and about around the community in comfort. I was not confident leaving my house before, but now I can visit my family around South Wales in a reliable vehicle, without any pain.”
Owen Smith MP said: “It is a pleasure to be here and to present my constituent Janet with the keys to her new Motability car. Motability is an exceptional Scheme that provides a lifeline to many, both here in Pontypridd and to thousands of disabled people around the UK.”
Declan O’Mahony, Director of Motability, commented: “We are delighted that Owen Smith could join us at this special car handover today. Motability currently supports more than 630,000 people with their personal mobility and we remain committed to this in the future.”
