Primary Schools across Pontypridd were given the chance to enter Owen Smith and Mick Antoniw’s Christmas card competition this year, with the help of local firm Edwards Coaches who sponsored the initiative.
Each year Mick and Owen send out a joint Christmas card to local businesses, charities and constituents. Edwards Coaches sponsor the cards and provide prizes for the successful students.
This year the winner was Paris Phillips from Tonyrefail Primary School, with runners up Mollie and Ben from Maesycoed Primary, Leo from Llantrisant Primary and Hannah from Tonyrefail.
Owen and Mick selected the cards from hundreds of fantastic entries and visited the schools last week to congratulate the pupils on their creative designs.
Owen Smith said:
“I am so pleased that pupils from schools across Pontypridd took part in the competition and produced so many excellent card designs. It was really difficult to choose the top five from such fantastic entries, I’d like to thank all of the pupils and teachers for joining in the fun and designing such creative and inspiring cards.”
Mick Antoniw said,
“It was great to meet the next generation of young Welsh artists, who made our job of choosing the winning card such a difficult one. My congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part – you all did your school and Pontypridd proud!”
Jason Edwards added:
“It was a real pleasure to be involved once again in this year’s Christmas card competition. I was impressed by the enthusiasm and excitement of the children and teachers; there were so many great entries but Paris’ picture of Santa driving an Edwards bus is so imaginative and therefore, a very worthy winner. Edwards Coaches are proud to support the local community and initiatives like this really are important in reaching out to adults and children alike.
“It was also really great to work alongside our local representatives in Owen Smith and Mick Antoniw and I’m pleased Edwards Coaches are a part of their 2014 Christmas card.”
