Owen Smith and Mick Antoniw met recently with Reverend Peter Lewis of St Catherine’s Church in Pontypridd to speak to him about the valuable community services the local church offers.
St Catherine’s Church has recently undergone a £750,000 facelift to transform it into a community facility; including a new cafe and a free computer area.
Reverend Lewis spoke to the Ponty MP and AM about the Church’s links with other community organisations such as Christians Against Poverty who provide free debt advice and counselling for those struggling financially.
The services at St Catherine’s are run by local volunteers, with the Church also offering rooms for other community groups to use- including Tai Chi classes and an over 50s lunch club.
Commenting on the meeting, Owen Smith said:
“I was really pleased to meet with Reverend Lewis and discuss the important work he and other volunteers are doing in the local area.
“Mine and Mick’s offices are helping more and more people who are suffering with debt and benefit problems, and local services like these are increasingly necessary with the rising costs of living.”
Mick Antoniw added:
“It was really beneficial to meet Reverend Lewis and discuss the work St Catherine’s does alongside other community groups and churches in the Pontypridd constituency. Myself and Owen look forward to working alongside Reverend Lewis to support the important work he is doing for the local community.”
