Jobseekers at a Pontypridd Job Club were today joined by their local MP, Owen Smith, for the weekly event designed to support people back to work.
The Labour MP joined the Christians Against Poverty job club based at St. Catherine’s Church to see first-hand the advice and assistance on offer to local residents seeking employment.
The Job Club began in 2013 and, through their eight-week course, provides help with CVs, mock interviews as well as one-to-one mentoring support to help attendees find and secure a job.
Speaking from St. Catherine’s Church, Owen Smith MP said:
“Re-entering the world of work can be daunting but luckily support is on hand from Job Club through its eight-week programme.
“Whether its help writing your CV or tips about interview techniques, this friendly environment is the perfect place to meet new friends and get advice, help and support over a cup of tea.
“Over the past four years, the Job Club has had great success helping to get local people back to work and I look forward to seeing the project go from strength to strength.”
Christians Against Poverty Job Club manager, Peter Lewis, added:
“We’re grateful to our MP Owen Smith for taking time to visit today and to see the work we undertake to help get people back to work.
“Christians Against Poverty provides support to help people, of all faiths or none, get back to work. If you’d like help to get back to work, please get in touch by calling 01443 492033 or 0800 328 0006.”
